Drapers Mills - where every child really matters.

Class 6S - Class Teacher: Ms Swift

Welcome to 6S' Class page.  On this page you will find useful information over the year; if you can think of anything else you would like to see please let me know.

6S will be swimming on Friday 27th November 2009 and for the remainder of Fridays this term.  Please ensure your child has a kit and has had their earings removed.  Please be aware that if you have asked for your child to be dismissed from the Pool, they will leave at 3.15pm, those returning to school with staff will return at approximately 3.30pm.  Please ensure you have returned your slip stating your preference to your child's release from staff.

Please can you have a PE kit in school every day for the first two weeks and then on PE days (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) from then on.    You will need a T-shirt and shorts for indoor lessons and trainers for outdoor lessons.  You may also like a pair of track suit trousers and jumpers for outdoor lessons.   You will also need a swimming kit for the Fridays when it is our turn - towel, goggles (if you would like to use them) and a costume.

Homework:   It is expected that you will

  • read daily for at least 10 minutes; what you read is up to you: instructions, newspapers, magazines, a book from school or one you have at home.
  • learn your weekly spelling lists; it might help to write them out each day, sound them out to a family member, read them once a day, or you may have a different method.
  • learning times tables; start by learning them in order saying the whole sentence (1 x 3 = 3, 2 x 3 = 6 etc.) then recalling them in a random order again saying the whole sentence out each time. You could say them as you walk to and from school or in the bath.
  • complete each termly project in time: you will be given a topic each term with ideas for written work, drawing / art work, investigations (books / internet) and 3D models.  There will be something you can enjoy doing with your family.  When you bring in your work be prepared to talk to either Miss Swift or Mrs Cole about your work; don't worry if you start by saying that your parents / brother / sister helped.
